The Lotus Flower (Izimbali in Zulu) sinks its roots into the darkest mud at
the bottom of streams and ponds ... yet it produces the most beautiful bloom. It has been associated with purity and beauty in many religions that originated in the East. South African culture has been enriched by a variety of communities from the Indian subcontinent. When integrated into African beadwork, the Lotus symbolises how we can overcome all obstacles on our journey towards self-discovery and enlightenment.
“ I am not a saint, unless you think of a saint as a sinner who keeps on trying "
-Nelson Mandela
