Turquoise, the colour of the clearest water, is often associated with serenity and peace. Water brings life and healing and is a powerful symbol in most communities. The addition of Murano glass and silver in the design celebrates the blending of different cultures and traditions in Southern Africa. Izimbali is the Zulu word for flowers. The use of colour is central to beadwork made in traditional societies that depended greatly on oral communication. In Zulu beadwork each colour represents a value and a combination of colour in specific sequences or patterns that expresses specific emotions through a very visual language.
